David Walusimbi is a pharmacist and global health professional with extensive experience in medicine regulation, academia, health policy, and clinical trials. He currently serves as a programme officer at the African Union Development Agency–NEPAD, where he provides technical support to regional economic communities and national regulatory authorities in advancing medicines regulatory harmonisation and strengthening institutional development across Africa.
Previously, David worked with Uganda’s National Drug Authority for over seven years, where he played a central role in medicine regulation, particularly in vaccine safety, pharmacovigilance, medicines information, and clinical trials oversight. He has also worked with the Management Sciences for Health seconded to the Ministry of Health – Uganda, and with Makerere University’s Department of Pharmacy.
David holds an MSc in Global Health from Trinity College Dublin and a Bachelor of Pharmacy from Makerere University. He is an Ireland–Africa Fellow and recipient of the Kevany Award from the Trinity Centre for Global Health.
He has contributed to advancing knowledge through publications, including works on drug safety in Africa, pharmacovigilance systems, integration of herbalists into healthcare systems, and adverse drug reaction reporting in Uganda.
David holds a strong passion for strengthening health systems and regulatory frameworks, and he continues to champion regulatory harmonisation, capacity building, and global health security across the continent.
