Dr Seima Dijeng is the Chief Executive Officer of the Botswana Medicines Regulatory Authority (BoMRA), a position he has held since May 2024, having previously served as Acting CEO from January 2023. With over 17 years of progressive leadership experience spanning food safety and pharmaceutical regulation, Dr Dijeng brings a unique multidisciplinary perspective to medicines regulation. Dr Dijeng joined BoMRA in September 2018 as the founding Director for Licensing and Enforcement, where he successfully established structures and processes for inspectorate licensing, laboratory services, import and export control, and enforcement operations. A strong believer in strategic partnerships, he fostered key relationships with regulatory and enforcement entities both locally and internationally to advance BoMRA's goal of pursuing WHO maturity level 3. While improving timely access to medicines through the implementation of reliance.
Under his leadership, the Authority continues to inch ever so close to ML3, having successfully modernised its regulatory framework in alignment with the AU model law. His pharmaceutical regulation expertise is complemented by extensive experience in veterinary public health, having served as Deputy Director of Veterinary Public Health at the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security, where he headed Botswana's Veterinary Public Health Division. Dr Dijeng holds a Master of Science in Food Safety and Risk Analysis from University College Dublin, Ireland (First Class Honours, 2013) and a Bachelor of Veterinary Science from the University of Queensland, Australia (2007). He is among the first cohort of the African Regulatory Leadership Programme (ARLP) and has also completed an Executive Development Programme with the University of Stellenbosch Business School (2023). He is chair of the SADC Medicines Regulatory Harmonization Initiative (ZAZIBONA) Governance Committee and serves on numerous other technical committees, including the National Codex Committee and other national standards committees, demonstrating his commitment to regional regulatory harmonization and continental collaboration.
