Dr Kédji Carmelle Nadège Hounnou is a Doctor of Pharmacy with advanced expertise in pharmaceutical regulation and public health. She holds a master’s degree in science, technology and health with a specialization in pharmaceutical regulation from the University of Lille 2, as well as a master’s degree in public health, specializing in epidemiology. Since 2008, Dr Hounnou has acquired significant experience addressing the regulatory challenges faced by African countries in the pharmaceutical sector. She contributed to strengthening the drug registration system and implementing pharmaceutical regulatory functions within the Directorate of Pharmacy and Medicines in Benin. In 2015, she joined the Commission of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) as Executive Secretary of the Regional Committee for the Harmonization of Pharmaceutical Regulation, where she works to advance regulatory harmonization and strengthen the institutional and regulatory framework for health products and technologies across UEMOA member states. In addition to this role, Dr Hounnou has served since 2018 as Head of the Health Division within the Directorate of Health and Social Protection, where she contributes to the coordination of public health policies and the development of strategic initiatives to improve healthcare systems across the region.
