Mohamed Ramzy Ismail is currently Team Lead of Medicines, Diagnostics, Infrastructure and other Health Technologies (MDI) team in the Health Systems and Services (HSS) Cluster at the World Health Organization Regional Office for Africa. Mohamed joined WHO in 2007, at the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean. In 2015, he moved to WHO Country Office Papua New Guinea then joined WHO Bangladesh from 2017 to 2023. His work has centered on the public health aspects related to medical products and health technologies including regulatory system strengthening, access to medicines, antimicrobial resistance and others.
Mohamed has over 25 years of experience working with countries of different income settings and contexts and focusing on the pharmaceutical sector. Prior to joining WHO, he practiced pharmacy in hospital and community settings, served as officer in the Egyptian Military and worked in pharmaceutical industry in Egypt and Switzerland. Mohamed also worked in the NGO sector in the Middle East and North Africa Region on various public health related projects. Mohamed trained at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Assiut University, Egypt and received an MBA on Health Population and Nutrition from Keele University, Staffordshire, United Kingdom, focusing on the effect of international agreements on access to medicines in developing countries.
