Kenya Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB)
Dr John Munyu, MBS, a distinguished pharmaceutical and healthcare expert, has been appointed Chairman of the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) in Kenya. Effective July 4, 2025, Dr Munyu will serve a three-year term as Non-Executive Chairperson, leveraging his vast experience to strengthen governance and oversight in Kenya's pharmaceutical industry. With over 26 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors, Dr Munyu brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his new role. His impressive background includes serving as CEO of the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) from January 2010 to January 2017, where he played a crucial role in ensuring a steady supply of medical commodities to public healthcare facilities. Dr Munyu's appointment is part of a strategic effort to enhance governance and institutional performance in Kenya's health sector. As Chairperson of the PPB, he will provide leadership in regulating and overseeing the pharmaceutical industry, ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficacy. Notably, Dr Munyu was honoured with the Moran of the Burning Spear (MBS) state medal in 2011 for his contributions to the public health sector. His expertise extends to medical procurement, public health supply chains, and pharmaceutical regulation, making him an ideal candidate to lead the PPB. Under Dr Munyu's leadership, the PPB is poised to make significant strides in promoting public health and safety in Kenya. His appointment demonstrates President William Ruto's commitment to strengthening leadership and accountability within the countryโs health sector.
