Yunus Mohammed is a healthcare professional with more than 18 years of experience spanning the public, private, and development sectors. A registered pharmacist with an MBA, he has held senior leadership roles, including project manager, programme manager, and executive director, overseeing large-scale initiatives across Southern Africa and beyond. His expertise lies in advancing access to medicines, digital health innovation, and pharmaceutical system strengthening.
As the Executive Director of the Sustainable Access Platform for Affordable Medicines & Devices (SAPAM), Yunus leads regional initiatives that combine policy reform, technology, and market access to improve the availability and affordability of essential medicines. Under his leadership, SAPAM has collaborated with multilateral partners such as the SADC Secretariat, WHO, UNDP, UNFPA, and the Commonwealth Secretariat to advance pooled procurement, regulatory harmonisation, and regional manufacturing strategies.
Recognized for his hands-on, systems-orientated leadership, Yunus continues to promote equitable access through innovation, collaboration, and pragmatic implementation—bridging the gap between digital transformation and public health impact across Africa’s evolving healthcare landscape.
