Yodit Fitsum Ghebrezgabhier is a pharmacist and MSc Clinical Trials candidate at the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom, with 10 years of professional experience in pharmacovigilance, clinical practice/research, and regulatory systems strengthening. She is currently affiliated with the Eritrean Pharmacovigilance Centre, the National Medicines and Food Administration, where she has been actively involved in medicines safety monitoring, signal detection, and safety communication.
Yodit has led and participated in multiple training and capacity-building initiatives aimed at improving pharmacovigilance systems and promoting harmonised regulatory and ethical standards across Africa. She is a member of Working Group B of the WHO member-states mechanism for combating substandard and falsified medical products.
Beyond pharmacovigilance, her research interests include medicine safety in vulnerable groups, adverse event reporting in multi-country clinical trials, and strengthening regulatory frameworks for clinical research in low-resource settings.
Yodit is passionate about building sustainable regulatory and research capacity in Africa and fostering collaboration among stakeholders to enhance the continent’s medicines regulatory systems. Through her participation in the 7th Biennial Scientific Conference on Medicines Regulation in Africa, she aims to share insights from her academic and professional experience and contribute to discussions on advancing clinical research governance and pharmacovigilance capacity in the region.
